FAQ on translation and legalization

Certified translation, apostille, legalization, timelines, prices: answers to our Gabon clients' most frequent questions.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a certified translation cost?

The price depends on the document type, number of pages, language pair, deadline and any additional steps (legalization, apostille, shipping). Send us your document: the quote is free and without obligation.

How do I send my documents?

Through the website form (attachments) or by email to info@abc-offices.com. A readable photo or scan is enough for the quote. Originals, when needed, can be handed over in person or sent by courier.

Do you work outside Libreville?

Yes, everywhere in Gabon. Most translations are handled remotely; interpreters travel to every province.

Are my documents kept confidential?

Yes. Your documents are used only to process your request and are never shared with unrelated third parties.

Certified translation

What is the difference between a certified and a sworn translation?

In everyday use both terms describe an official translation signed and stamped by an authorised translator. Some countries require a translator sworn before a specific court: tell us the destination country and authority and we will propose the right format.

Is a scanned copy enough?

For the quote, yes: a readable scan or photo is enough. Some authorities then require the translation to be attached to the original or to a certified true copy; we tell you in the quote.

How long does it take?

Turnaround depends on the language, the number of pages and any additional steps (legalization, apostille). It is stated in your quote. Urgent service is often available.

Apostille

Can a Gabonese document be apostilled?

No: Gabon does not issue apostilles because it is not currently a party to the Hague Convention. A Gabonese document for use abroad must be legalized (Ministry of Foreign Affairs, then the embassy or consulate of the destination country). We handle that procedure.

My document was issued in France: can I use it in Gabon with an apostille?

For use in Gabon, legalization by the Gabonese embassy or consulate is normally required. For use in another Convention member country, the French apostille is sufficient. Describe your situation and we will tell you the right route.

Do I also need a translation?

Often yes, if the destination country does not use the document's language. Depending on the country's rules the translation is done before or after the apostille; we arrange the correct order.

Consular & embassy legalization

What is the difference between legalization and an apostille?

An apostille is a single formality valid between Hague Convention member countries. Legalization is a chain of validations (ministry, then embassy or consulate) used when one of the countries is not a member, which is the case for Gabon.

Do I need to go to the embassy myself?

No, in the vast majority of cases we file and collect the documents for you. Some personal steps (for example signing before an authority) may require your presence; we tell you in advance.

Are embassy fees included?

Consular fees vary by country and document type. They are listed separately in your quote for full transparency.

Notary services

Is a Gabonese notarial deed valid abroad?

Generally it must be legalized (and often translated) to take effect abroad. We handle the full chain: deed, translation, legalization.

Can you prepare a deed for a foreign notary?

Yes. We check with you the template and wording required by the foreign notary or authority to avoid rejection.

Certified true copy

Do I need to show the original?

Yes, a true copy is certified against the original. We explain how to hand it over securely, or arrange an appointment.

Power of attorney

Does the attorney-in-fact need to be present?

No, usually only the principal (the person granting the power) signs. Requirements vary by country and purpose; we check everything before signing.

Document retrieval

Can you obtain any document?

We obtain the documents the law allows to be issued to an authorised representative. Some personal documents require a power of attorney or the holder's ID; we give you the exact list.

I live abroad: can you get my certificate in Gabon?

Yes, it is one of our most requested services. Tell us the document, the municipality or court concerned and the destination country.

Interpreting

How far ahead should I book?

The earlier the better, especially for conferences and rare languages. For a one-off appointment, a few days' notice is often enough.

Do you work outside Libreville?

Yes, in every province of Gabon. Any travel costs are shown in the quote.
